Valve float is still possible with a weak or broken spring. If you flushed the passages, you may not need the additive. Oil or something mechanical in the valve/cam area is probably going to be the problem. On my Toyota I had a tappet noise that got loader with engine rpm. The head gasket blow so when I replace it during the assembly of the cams, I pre-oiled the oil passges. When I did that a chunk of carbon came out and that took care of the noise.

Interesting phenomenon with those points.
