i have stayed away from the nos stuff although some guys swear by them. i had my r&p gears swapped and used leather seals. although they were prepared properly, they weep. another advantage of the newer seals is that because of the design where some new seals have dual contact points, they contact the spinning surface in a different spot. its helpful when the surface area where the leather rode is worn. no seal will seal pits or gouges or tightly squeeze a shrunken diameter, but i feel with the effort involved in getting to the seal warrants the best parts availabe. im doing my front axle right now and am waiting for current inner axle seals. i dont want to chance leather as i NEVER want to do it again. i will enjoy watching my 18mth old son do it in 2050 as i sit in my rocker in the garage!!! i only wish someone would make the cork knuckle gasket in a modern material or new cork production.
