Check brake shoe adjustment. I had a WC with an adjuster that used to back off suddenly andthen I would have to pump up pedal. did you ever adjust the shoes when installing and then after some break in? These MCs will just fail completely when they go bad. having air in the system will make p[edal low and won't pump much at all. I would for sure pull the wheels and adjust all shoes
