OT, Price for a brake job

While in Florida over Christmas we had the occasion to drive Joans mothers car, a 90 Ford Taurus. On the trip to our errand everything was fine, on the way back the drivers front brake was sticking. Unfortunatly it was our last day or I would have done a quick brake job. We suggested she get it taken care of. She was talking to Joan tonite and mentioned that she had gotten the brakes fixed. The shop had also reccomended that she do the rears at the same time. The bill came to $1234.50
This was a respected shop, not a Ford dealer.
I am looking forward to seeing a copy of the invoice. I wonder if they just replace the entire rear axle! I think there must be a heavy "old lady tax" Time and materials plus about $500 additional profit. It really annoys me that women and elderly get taken advantage of so often.
