You need to make sure you do not have a dual voltage system in the Cat. Some have a relay to change the battrys to a higher voltage for starting and then change them back for running and charging them up. I have 3 - 12 volt battrys for my Freightliner Cat Engine. My starter is 24 volts but the rest of the truck is 12 volts. The 3rd 12 volt battry is put in series to get the 24 volts only when starting and that just goes to the starter. I have 2 grounds and 2- Positive Cables going to the relay. When starting the relay conects the 2 of the battrys in paralle and the other 1 in serries with those for starting and after it starts it conects them all to 12 volts so they will be charged. So 2 of the 3 battrys are hooked in Paralle to double the amperage from them and the 3rd is by it self to be hooked in series to the other ones for starting reasons. Now I bet your realy confused?
