No, a slipped timing chain would not affect being able to generate a spark, only the timing of the spark event.

You should still have spark as it is dependent only on the rotation of the distributor shaft and the subsequent opening and closing of the points.

Are you checking for spark at the spark plug or on the high tension from the coil to the distributor cap?

Turn over the motor with the starter while the distributor cap removed to actually observe via the rotor that the distributor shaft is indeed rotating.

If it is then check for spark on the high tension from the coil to the distributor.

If there is no spark at this point then check for voltage going to the coil (which side, + or -, depends on if you have a positive gound system or a negative ground system).

If you have voltage to the coil you should be able to generate a spark simply by closing and opening the points.

If you still don't have spark on the high tension with the above conditions met, then I would assume that you have a bad coil at that point.
