If you think it was from a virus, then your Norton's is not doing it's job. Is your subscription up to date and have you tested your computer security using their web site?

Using system restore may only apply to the Windows Operating system's registry and not any production or static files. There are programs that will allow restoring deleted files through the FAT file registry but you have to know the first letter or character of the file name to successfully do it. When you delete a file, the file is not deleted only it's first alpha numeric character.

Check the Recycle bin for the deleted files and right click your mouse to restore if they appear there.

If they don't, don't save any new files and buy a "tools" package that will allow recovery of deleted files.

Open the "control panel," then click on "internet options" and click the "delete cookies" and then click the "delete files" to delete and spyware adware type junk from the computer. Do this each time you turn on your computer and initial program loads have completed or system has completed it's boot. Do this on a daily basis if you leave your system on.

Update Norton to the latest version and make sure it includes a firewall. If your ISP does not scan e-mail attachments for viruses, set Nortons to do so.

Create a folder to place all documents and pictures and back it up on CD rom periodically
