Electical system. What's the minimum

I'm in the middle of rewiring my 56' 12volt truck. After reding all the electrical posts and the MAD electrical website, I'm getting a little leary of the original Amp guage set up(but somehow the truck hasn't burnt up in the last 50 years). I'm going to have John E. make up a harness for me with a fuse box. However in the mean time I would like to run the truck off road only. What's the minimum amount of wiring I have to run to make the truck run ok? I have the floor push start and good wiring hooked up from the generator to the voltage regulator, nothing is hooked up under the dash.
