The early 3/4 tons had grilles where the bars were put through holes drilled in the surround and welded in place, later ones had the ends of the bars stamped flat and welded to the front face of the surround.

This seems to apply to main grille and headlight guards, and the WIRE IN type definitely lasted till after the transition to elongated headlight guard for the blackout light had been made on the drivers side.

I've seen main grilles(both winch and non-winch), the standard right headlight guard, and both varieties of left hand headlight guard as both WIRE IN and WIRE ON, and all I would suggest is to try and get a matched set of all three. I think I have a spare main one here somewhere but it's for a non-winch truck I'm sure.
