the two 12V batteries must be matched as for charicteristics, even then one will assume a different charge rate and requirement than the other and the one not requiring charge (or the +12 to +24 'second' battery) will die sooner than the - to +12 'first' battery as it is getting a steady unnecessary charge put on it. I have seen people go through the second battery in a year or two from running 12 V accessories. Especially at current draw over 3-5 amps. You are best buying one of Arthurs converters, then your charging system and battery use will be balanced.
