In our area they require a air space between the insulation and the roof so it can vent under the roof. People I have known to build log cabins would fir up a space above the planking to put the insulation into and allow a air gap above it to the ridge with vent blocks on the eave edges. This was to stop sweat from building up. You will also need a vapor barrier. You could probley use 3-4 ft on centers for the sheets and a steel roof designed to attach on 3-4 ft centers. Contact the building dept in your area they will fill you in on the requirement for the roof. In Washington they are real picky on roof insulation. Using the foam board will hold down the thickness of your roof compaired to fiberglass types. Mark H.
