Velocity can make up for a variety of problems, and can be enhanced by not wasting pedal motion in moving shoes out.
Use your adjusters and move all shoes completely out to the drums, locking them hard in place. Then ALL pedal motion will be used to build pressure velocity. Press hard and open a bleeder as far and as fast as you can.
Try bleeding the brakes on a long school bus sometime....
