Dodge trucks of the early 40's up to 2.5 tons used hydraulics or a combination of hydraulics and vacuum for brake operation. A vacuum booster attached to the master cylinder using vacuum created either by a vacuum pump off the side of diesel engines or a seperate unit driven by a belt on gas engines. Tractors pulling trailers used a hand control or a synchronizing value from Midland Steel Products Co. to equalize and match tractor and trailer braking
