According to the 1945 Purolator catalog which only lists applications from 1933-42, the sealed filter was first used by Dodge trucks in 1933. Until 1942 the sealed unit and the NE-1517 filter is all that is shown for the Dodge truck. The Deluxe JC filter doesn't appear to be a factory option until the PW and other truck models went back into production in 1945. The Deluxe JC did exist prior to 1941 but I can't say for sure if Dodge used it before the war. There were Dodge trucks that were unequipped with any filters but I don't know if the PW was included. A 1950 PW sales brochure indicates the sealed filter was standard equipment. The Feb 1948 WDX parts book lists the sealed filter, the N-16 series Motors Improvements/Purolator and the Deluxe JC as filters the trucks left the factory with. It also lists a Purolator P-701 filter kit with mounting brackets to perhaps provide a replacement for the standard sealed filter. The N-16 Purolator was originally used on early military WC 1/2 tons and may have been found on the early PW's as they were using up available filter housings. Eventually the N series Purolator was dropped in favor of the P-701 type housing, probably when the B series PW began production. The 1963 Dodge truck parts book lists only the Deluxe JC and Purolator P-704 which has a ribbed top cover as opposed to the rounded top cover of the earlier P-701 filter assy. I believe there might have been other filters available as a special equipment option and the late 60's PW's may have had a shunt or full flow filter option but without the parts book to confirm I can't say for sure.
