Concrete ties are used exclusively on the Northeast Corridor for the high speed AMTRACK lines. They are more stable than wood over the seasons. Several years ago AMTRACK had problems with an aggregate reaction in the tie concrete that forced them to replace thousands of ties, but it's not a problem now.
