The pumps are so simple, I can't hardly see it wearing out, but low flow would make it hot. Somewhere is a plugged port to hook a gauge into and check pump pressure. There may be something like a sticky valve allowing bypass of fluid? There are enough ports to trouble shoot the whole thing, like which clutch slips, bad pistons, bad accumulator, etc,etc. I've managed to fix 4 different trannies over the years, only had to fully rebuild one. Pro's wont take the time, especially when it costs a big sale. I'll post the brand of booklets I have. They were from the net, 2 for each trans, one trouble shoot and one reuilding, at $15 each.
