I don't know about the interchangeability between the WDX and WC 3/4 ton parts, but I replaced one rear axle backing plate on my WDX with a front one. Instead of rivets, I used fine thread grade 8 bolts to attach the replacement to the axle housing. That was about 20 years ago. No problems so far.
