"The war in vietnam was lost in the press through the actions of people like Uncle Walter. Don't believe me? Read a history of the Tet offensive and compare reality against how it was potrayed in the press."

Let see here you are saying that the whole Vietnam War was lost by The Press? The Vietam war was a war based on a measured response and I would consider this to be a far greater factor than the Press (poor civilian leadership). We did not use overwhelming force to impose our will upon the enemy. As for Uncle Walt, I am not sure who you are referring, but I can assume that you mean Walter Conkrite and not Gen. Lewis Walt USMC. If you are basing the loss of a war on the Press your understanding of the Vietnam War is poor at best (In fact your arguement based on reading a book (from the "press") concerning the TET Offensive to counter the press).
Today, we find ourselves in the same predicament today. You do not go to a Knife fight with a knife you bring a gun. Rumsfield would like you to believe that "you bring what you have." This is not the answer you give 19 year old LCPL driving a tanker truck full of JP-8 fuel through Iraq. Yes, I guess you could say he volunteered for this job. But, it is not right, and Gen Powell tried to persuade Bush otherwise prior to the invasion into Iraq. Furthermore, Shinseki was right, we need several hundred thousand troops not half of the minimum. We, in fact, did the cuttin and runnin before we really started this matter. Rumsfield is very much inept like McNamara. I had a chance to speak with one of McNamara's squadron mates (McNamara was an Air Force REMF) and McNamara was responsible for crunching the numbers to determine if a bombing mission was successful. If we look back at his experience in the Air Force, he did not serve the boots on the ground very well. Rumsfield has the same characteristics as McNamara, in that he is restricting the Military, . This is what I consider the act of cut and running. Again, Murtha is right, if you make war, make war. A Navy chaplain once told me, "If you sin, sin badly." If we are going to be pussy footin around in Iraq, killin our boys, then we should depart.
