That's because the too tall tires are causing the motor to lug and the trans to run hot. Those 285's are probably 3 inches taller than the correct tire if they have the same aspect ratio as the 235's?
Lugging also causes the trans to work harder, slipping to accomodate the tall gear, it's confusing the heck out of your computer also because rpm is controlled by the computer which is SET for ratio of the 235's. So all of the parameters it is setting for your motor and trans are WRONG!
