The 245's are narrower than the 285's, as for ratio, it depends upon what the aspect ratio is, such as 70-75-80-etc. That aspect ratio number is the size of the sidewall shown as a percentage of the width. So a 285-75 would be taller than a 285-70 and would make your final gear ratio higher, numericly smaller.
That trans is pretty good, I have had no problems with it in my 5 ton Ram, check that sensor.
