Hey everybody,
my speedometer (C3PW) failed and I replaced the cable naturally,
(Brand ATP part# Y-892)assuming the cable was the problem. But it turned
out that the speedometer itself was seized after my long road trip
and now I need another cable.
I also discovered that these units don't seem to designed to be taken apart.
I broke the glass faceplate learning this. I ground the corner rivets off and
got it somewhat apart. Liberal doses of penetrating oil loosened it up, and
now it appears to spin freely when attached to a drill. It appears that the
only way to get it apart any further, involves removing the speed
indicator arm, and I'm reluctant to force that part off for fear of further
damage. I'm going to put it together with another cable and see what happens,
but I'd be interested in hearing of anyone else's experience with this
fascinating piece of "clocklike" machinery. I'm off to get another piece of
glass,
