Hope this helps
Some NP 205's would take a PTO through a door on
the driver's side, some wouldn't. There is also
the silent drive spacer that goes between the
NP 203 and the 727 torquefilte that takes a PTO
and I've seen them on both sides of that particular
adaptor. NP201(?) has the earlier bigger PTO door
on the driver's side, a 10 bolt I believe. I don't
know if the silent drive adaptor will fit the
205 also but it probably will. This is to say that
you can run a PTO with either the stick or auto
and any one of the three transfer cases. Also,
the guts from an NP205 can be swapped into the earlier
201 like the M-37 had but you must take ALL the parts!
including shift forks. By doing so, you can choose
which size PTO you'd like to use just by changing
cases. The NP 205 can be used in lieu of the early
NP 201 but he mounts have to be changed over to the later
type to mout it.
There is another choice and that is to piggyback a backwards
Ford transfer case inline and use the front driveshaft
from the backwards Ford transfer case to run a PTO off the
wrong-side front driveshaft. The added advantage is
the "double-down" gearing you get when both transfer
cases are in low gear.
(Whew!!)
Have a ball
