The M601 was a commercial 1 ton Power Wagon with an open cab and military accessories that was intended for sell or grants to friendly foreign governments. The MAP (Miliary Assistance Program) was respobsible for these trucks. Thus they may not show in various US military vehicle books, since the US military technically did not use them.

Now, since the M615 number is close to the M601 number, is is possible that the M615 MIGHT be, as a guess, the M601 based full bodied ambulance. The cab is closed and has the windshield of the typical early 50's Power Wagon. The ambulance body is the same width as the cab doors.

It is possible that the M615 could have been a true panel, similar to the WC Carryall. As I said, I'm guessing here.

Also, it is known that the US Army bought pretty much stock 1-ton Power Wagon pickups in 1949. I've never seen an M number for them.

Anyway, hopefully these will provide some leads for you.
