synthetic in NP200?

I went to using synthetic (Chevron or Mobil 1 - as available) in my NP200 t-case about two years ago with the idea of decreasing heat and increasing lubrication. Also, I know from experience that synthetic lubes stay fluid at much lower (winter) temps. Any ideas as to whether syntetic gear oil in these old t-cases is a good idea?
