Was at "Golden Age of Trucking" museum in Middlebury, Conn. this past weekend with our antique truck club group.
On display was a '47 WDX Power Wagon Firetruck on loan from a local fire company.
I noticed that the gearshift lever had been cut and rewelded as well as a "hook" placed from the floor to the shift which keeps the truck in nuetral.
I wonder if they had problems with the tranny because of the shifter "jumping" in gear during use or did they want to make sure the truck would'nt shift into gear accidently when someone was working the front pump -- or ??? (It would be a good idea to install one of these in all front pump fire trucks).
I see also they must have replaced the floorboard because they had a "hand-chopped" groove cut out for the emergency brake.
Would anyone "in-the-know" like to go check it out and report on it ---- (admission is charged). The trucks are nicely roped off where you can go all the way around the trucks and by request your welcome to get in the trucks, again by request.
Also on display was a Dodge 1/2 ton weapons carrier restored/on loan from a local private collector. For Jeep enthusiests there was also a rare Ford GP Jeep on display
Was also ble to pick up a 1/32 diecast PW from the gift shop at a very reasonable price !!
The museum has only been open since 2003 so everything (except the trucks) is new.
We also got to see a movie where they used antique trucks to move a 2 foot scale excursion railroad from Massachusetts to Portland Maine where it resides in tour use today !!!
A good museum for all to see !!!
