If you cannot rent or purchase a cam bearing installation set, I would urge you to take the block to the machine shop and have them do it.

The Snap-On cam bearing set I used years ago had what amounted to split collets that you adjusted to proper fit. Other sets I have seen used individually turned bushing drivers that were the correct size. You need something that fits right and a big socket with washers tacked to it won’t be that.

If you damage those bearings putting them in, you won’t get the camshaft to slide in, and you will spend a lot of time working on the individual bearings with a bearing scraper, and then may end up buying more bearings. You want those bearings to be installed correctly the first time. You don’t want them to be loose from the start.

Spend the money if you have to and get them installed by an automotive machine shop.
