I have been a Dodge fan all of my life, even my dog's name is Dodge. The first Dodge my family ever owned was a 74' Ramcharger, it had the 318/727 in it. My parents drove it for quite awhile, but eventually the tranny went out, I have no idea about the mileage on it. Shortly after having it rebuilt at a local shop, it literally exploded, sending shrapnel through the floorboards (actually ripped holes in the floor steel). Next they had an 89' Dodge Caravan w/ the 3.0 v-6/a-604 in it, at 145,000 miles it had had three trannies in it.

Some years later, I needed a car that got good mileage, and I came across a deal on a 89' Dodge Dynasty. It had 60,000 miles on it and the 3.0/A-604 in it. I drove it for approximately 10k before the tranny blew. I went the cheap route ($700) and bought one from the local scrapyard. So far I've driven this one for almost 80K, but it's now making a funny growling noise.

I'm a big believer in preventive maintenance, especially when it comes to auto trannies, I've changed the oil, and filter every 15k miles.

I've also worked in and around logging operations all of my life, and I've come to notice one thing, EVERY logging truck has a STANDARD tranny in it. Also when it came time to buy a new crummy or mechanic's truck, (basically any truck that was driven by anyone except the boss) it always had a standard in it. And if the Boss had to haul the occassional line machine carriage or skidder tire to town, his truck had a standard in it also.

In short, maybe Ford, or Chevy has a better tranny, but I have not seen an auto that will stand up to use and abuse like a standard. (IMO)
