The response here is good, considering that we live on an island, and the average age for firefighters in our volunteer department is 48.
We just got our LOSAP passed by the voters. (Length Of Service Award Program) that provides $30 per year of service, paid monthly, at retirement age of 65. A young person who puts in the maximum 40 years, can get $1200 per month at age 65. To get yearly credit, you must go to all meetings, drills, and 10% of all fires.
It is a good way to attract new blood, retain the old goobers, and get a bunch of people out of bed at 0330.
