I don't think it is thicker than 1/4". I will examine it, as I think you are right about the mounting bracket. I wonder if I can simply take a large screwdriver to act as a pry bar and bend it out just a smidge. I know breakage is a concern, but the way it is it will glaze the material if I leave it.
