Dodge announces Ram MegaCab dually
BECAUSE it's not enough that Dodge's new Ram MegaCab pickup can transport you and five friends in more comfort than some luxury cars, Dodge recently announced plans for a MegaCab "Dually" model, capable of towing more than 7,000 kilograms behind you and your gang.

Dodge says the dually (two wheels per side) rear axle -- a smaller version of those used on transport trucks -- gives this latest iteration of its Ram a serious leg up on the towing competition. Chevy's Silverado 3500 for instance, is limited to 5,443 kg, while the Ford F-350 Super Duty is rated to pull 6,169 kg.

The Dually arrives in January with a standard 5.9-litre Cummins turbo-diesel torque monster and six-speed manual transmission (an automatic will be optional). Four-wheel-drive models get an electric-shift transfer case, while a limited-slip differential is an option across the board. Stopping power is courtesy of four-wheel disc brakes measuring 350 millimetres in diameter -- almost the size of the wheels on a Chevrolet Aveo. Antilock braking with an electronic variable proportioning system is standard too.

LouAnn Barette of DaimlerChrysler Canada said pricing will be announced closer to the MegaCab Dually's availability.
