It is always best to replace bearings and their races at the same time. If the bearings are worn so are the races and visa versa. Visual inspection is not good enough. Also do not switch used bearings and races. Keep the smae bearings and races together.
Now I know that I will hear I replace bearings all the time with out replacing the races and never have problems.
