Some have used the 7" long 198 rods with 2.2
liter turbo pistons. The lore is this mod
increases dwell at TDC, which squeezes the
air/fuel mixture tighter, leading to better
flame propagation. The slant six has always
had open chamber headers with do not promote
"swirl" as well as newer designs.

It is said, although not scientifically
proven that the 7" rods allow 10.5:1
compression ratio with regular fuel. The
high compression builds more low end
torque, which helps the motor in economy
too. Said to run very smooth.

As I have a set of 198 rods, I may attempt
this mod. The 2.2 turbo pistons are getting
harder to find. If regular fuel works with 10.5:1 CR it's probably not a bad idea.
Higher compression ought to build more torque. Some sware by the 198 rods, these rods go for good prices on Ebay.
