The Mercedes Benz diesels were good but maybe too expensive for Dodge and Jeep.

Some '06 Mercedes diesels have alloy blocks,
no long term durability results on alloy,
the iron diesel motors weighed so much that
handling was affected. The new Mercedes diesels are also a V6, and were designed
for $50,000+ cars. Jeep might not get
Mercedes diesels, but diesels will likely
be the future of Jeep. Mercedes doesn't
want to offer a Dodge/Jeep with too much
Mercedes content, that would tend to cheapen
the premium paid for the Mercedes brand.
This is why the Sprinter is called a Dodge
or Freightliner, although Sprinter really
is a Mercedes.
