If it's not a real nice truck, a bottle of Bar's Leak will stop the leaks for 5 years or so. I have a crack in the block on my chevy pickup, and Bar's Leak had worked well for me. On the other hand, it shouldn't be nearly as hard to replace a core plug as to fix a cracked block.
