I'm just thinking that the serpentine belt on my 258 I-6 in my Jeep takes up a lot more more room than the similar v-belt because the serpentine belt is about 1 1/4" wide, it barely clears (and has cut into it before) the upper radiator hose and the fan snout is longer to clear the wider belt, it's about a 1/2 inch away from the radiator. The serpentine belt is more efficient, that's why Jeep, and later Dodge, went to it, I don't think the belt size (length) is a problem with his 318 because the later 5.2 Dodges ran this setup with a plethora of accessories. You may be the first, go for it.
Even with the serpentine belt, I'd still get the fan off of the motor and onto an electric thermostat.
