Joe, I think there's been a few disasters with the new injectors failing, but in general, I haven't heard too many complaints.
Lift pump problems were from 1999-2002.
My truck has 40K miles & no problems but I won't comment on the 48RE...I had mine rebuilt the week I bought the truck!
I think they'll hang in there if you don't do any crazy upgrades like I've done but more than anything, I just didn't like the feel of it.
Good luck if you buy one...I don't think reliability will be an issue for you with an 05.
