The disaster response will be handled in several stages. First is stablizing the situation. This stage will take days to weeks to come. Rebuilding takes place much later. If you want to help, contact the Red Cross and volunteer through them. Likewise, if you belong to a church that has a national disaster response agency, contact them. Believe me, as a disaster response coordinator that has worked with FEMA through several national disasters, the churches in the U.S. are known and depended upon for the very best disaster response available. Period. If you were to jump in the truck today and head out with chainsaw in hand, your good intentions would probably be turned back at the first roadblock. Your compassion is great. Channel it in a way that will really help the situation.
