I won't give input about gear/transmission choices since that has to be up to you. I can tell you the differences between the 3/4 and 1 ton since I also was considering buying one and did a lot of research on this very subject. The ONLY differences are this: Overhead cab lights standard on 3500 versus optional on 2500, the badging and the rear overload springs which equate to a 9,900 GVW as opposed to an 8,800 GVW on the 2500. Otherwise they are identical. Same engine/trans specs, same frames and front/rear axles. Seems like I might have missed 1 small difference but the biggie is the overload springs and related GVW. I also have a printed page from the dealer showing the specs relating to each one for comparison. I could scan and send to you if you need it.
