I have an intrest in german military pistols(P-38/lugers). You would not believe how many of them show up suposidly from a historical figure of imperial/nazi origin. For the most part, if you cannot prove with documentation it came from Al Capone, it is just a story. Serious collectors buy the gun, not the story. As another note, unless you produce a pic of your inlaw with Al handing it to him,would most likely be impossible to prove. I doubt very much there will be any paper trail. Pistols were not required to be registered then, and I doubt a gangster would even if required to do so. As long as that pistol was not reported stolen, I believe that registration should not be a problem. Laws vary drasticly from state to state, so talk to a compatant federal firearms license holder in your area before you get your butt in a ringer.
