I was stationed in Furth at W.O.Darby from june of 76 to oct of 78 in the 1/94th FA. An 8 inch Howitzer unit. I spent 1 year in A Battery Maint. and the rest of the time in service Battery recovery section as the 5 ton wrecker driver/operator, I never was given a FNG to sit in the passenger seat. My battalion warrant officer would just climb in with me and we would drive all over Germany I would go out for a month with our unit and come in for ten days then they would send me out with another and then do it once more. Did lots of time Graffenvere (sp. They nevr had enough pulling power in the two or so feet of snow at the time. I mostly pulled mess trucks in the snow and doubled as the engine and trans. puller plus anybody that broke down. I once pulled one of the 29 ton howitzers for over 20 miles on the autobahn (hard top).. Had great fun over there.
