The NP200, 201 and 205 are virtually identical with the 200 being a tad lighter and the 205 having a few parts out of aluminum and a single stick shifter. All are gear driven. O know of several folks running big HP in stock M37's ranging from small block gms and Dodges to a 454 gm. No problems that I know of.
As for putting a M37 on a modern running gear and not vice versa I suspect that they wanted a smooth ride with modern running gear, but a classic look.
