Although is kind of expensive, Glyptal is a red varnish which seals the pores of the iron motor casting.

Although you might obsessively clean the casting there will always be crud in the pores after hot tanking. Glyptal can help keep the motor oil clean, condensation won't react and form as much acid, oil will drain better and stay cleaner. Plus, I think the red looks good.

Por-15 is great to protect body and frames, their motor paint is also very good. Think of the hot and moist conditions inside of a running motor and the effect the chemistry can have on iron, and the alloy bearings.

I've not seen evidence that coating with Glyptal can altern the PH in the oil of a motor, seems like the varnish ought to help.
