Engine Painting: Before or After assembly?

Now that I have my engine back from the machine shop it's time to start re-assembly. But do/should I paint before or after assembly?

I'm going to use the POR-15 engine paint, and as it's preparation procedure has you clean and rinse with the cleaning and preparation materials, I'd only want to do that with an assembled engine, but I know most seem to pain before assembly (using spray enamels).

Ideas, suggestions?
