I am refering to the Dodge NV-4500/Np-205
Application;
The Dodge NV-4500 was not mated to a NP-205. However, a Np-205 from a 1989-1993 Dodge Cummins with the 5 speed Getrag transmission is plug and play to a NV-4500. The problem is in the seal that isolates the NV-4500 from the NP-205. The NP-205 (1989-1993)drive coupling will match the output spline from the NV-4500, however it will not seal with the existing seal in place at the rear of the NV-4500. The NV-4500 MUST be filled with a special synthetic oil or destruction will result (dodge service manual). Many people doing this conversion depend on the seal in the NP-205 input to prevent cross contamination of lubricants. If the NP-205 seal fails you WILL cross contiminate into the NV-4500.

The fix is quite simple. By turning the drive coupling down a few thousands on the input end, a new size seal can be installed in the rear of the NV-4500 that will now match the turned down drive coupling. Now you have two working seals to prevent cross contamination. If you get into this mod, let me know and I will dig out that seal number. Its worth the little effort to do this mod for safety of your NV-4500.
