I think they just used what they had available to get them out the door including many military items. My motor and transfer case mounts on the frame are stamped steel not the cast ones. Though I have heard about the brass headlight bases mine has the pot metal ones. Maybe the Detroit trucks got the brass not the Cali trucks.
Very interesting indeed the differences. Also my truck has a military heater though I have not yet taken it out to really look at it closely. Hate to have 2 trucks apart at the same time. Front axle housing is military as well along with a steel glovebox liner.
