I had a problem with a sloppy shifter. I thought that maybe the pin was worn out, and all I needed to do was replace it someway. I got a lot of different advice on what to do about this. Because of all the different opinions, I decided to take the tranny top apart.
Wow, I am glad I did. You can see tremendous wear on both sides of the slot for the pin in the tranny lever ball. I have placed a good take off one next to it in the picture to see the difference in wear. Also, the pin was worn too.
I believe I will simply swap it out with the better one and its pin.
I have been advised by a knowledgeable person that to repair/build up the slot, I would need to have it carefully welded and then have the area heat tempered. I am not sure I want to go that route at this point.
