Too bad insurance companies can not offer a pay-per-use option. The underwriter would assign a flat annual rate for the antique vehicle that is seldom driven, ie kept in locked garage - real cheap rate, then you would go online to get an usage certificate whenever you wished to use the truck on the road - wait for an email confirmation, maybe have an 1-800 IVR number where you could call and extend for another day. Coverage would vary according to actual risk.

Technically this scenario is possible with the Internet, probably govt insurance regulations prevent this. If you were stopped by police, how would they know you had coverage? For a person with several antique cars which were driven only occasionally it might be a good deal.
