Talked to Charles Talbert at M37 rebuild about this very subject. The book info is a misprint. Correct timing for the stock motor is 4 degrees BTDC (2 to 4 degrees BTDC is acceptable). Never set the timing to anything After TDC (ATDC) or you may get some serious engine damage.
