Youuare right it would turn into a motor but it may get damaged by the high amps of the battery. I have tested them in vehicles by reversing the wires on the generator, disconnecting the fan belt, then turn the key on and it will spin. then you know all the circuits inside are in good shape. I suppose you could try hooking to a battery charger? not too many amps. Steve
