Vaccuum advance will help at partial throttle only, not at full throttle since the vacuum drops as the throtle is opened. The vacuum system is good for gas mileage at partial throttle. On very heavy vehicles or boats it won't help because you are always at full throttle, never at a light cruise. There is a centifugal advance mechanism located under the points plate. It will advance the timing as the engine picks up speed.
